For many of us, the holidays are a mixed bag of cheer and stress. For others, the holidays can be painful or difficult. We often find ourselves reflecting on the past, times when we remember being happy and with our families. But then reality sets in…we grow up and families change. What can you do to still find some holiday cheer?
Start a new tradition. The problem with traditions is that we get attached to them, and when they are no longer possible, it can be very difficult to adapt. We automatically start to feel down and rue over Christmas’s of the past. But what if you start a new tradition…maybe your own or with a pet or friends? The pressure is off to try and uphold standards as you take over traditions of old. There is new reason to find joy and to look forward to the holidays again and your new tradition!
Try to find some way to bring back the joy of the holidays, even if that means starting a new “untraditional” tradition.
